Choosing courses becomes more important as the years progress.
In Years 11, 12 and 13 course choices must include consideration of:
Whether University or Polytech study is a goal.
Career steps.
Apprenticeships being considered.
Any pre-requisites for courses or work.
Planning and thought is required.
The College has a careers office that provides information and advice about careers and further study.
The Course Selection Process
All Year 11, 12 and 13 students are given a Senior Course Handbook that contains:
An outline of all course available.
Course pre-requisites.
All the rules that apply to NCEA study.
Students coming into Year 11
Year 10 students are spoken to in classes about course selections for Year 11.
Each student is interviewed by a senior staff member.
Option Forms are sent home for parent approval
Students Coming into Years 12 and 13
Year 11 and 12 students are surveyed about their course selection intentions during Term 3 and 4.
Options are confirmed on course confirmation days held when NCEA results are known in the week before school begins.

Course Advice
Course advice is available from the Deans and any senior staff member.
Careers Advice
The College has a full time careers advisor who can give students advice on;
any aspects of careers
access to employment
apprenticeships
requirements for entry to University and Polytechs
pre-requisites for tertiary courses and employment
Career advice is available to all students regrdless of th year they are in.
Parents are also welcome to discuss career options with the Careers Advisor.
