Credits and Grades
Credits
Each Standard is worth credits.
The number of credits is defined in each Standard.
It is a pass / fail system:
Pass – all credits gained.
Fail – no credits gained.
Grades
Achievement Standards have grades
Unit Standards do not have grades.
Grades are awarded in addition to the credits.
Grades show the quality of a ‘Pass’:
Fail Not Yet Achieved
Pass Achieved
Merit
Excellence
Grade Point Average (GPA)
The GPA shows the average level of achievement.
50 Achieved average
75 Merit average
100 Excellence average
It can only be calculated for Achievement Standards.
It can be calculated for any combination of Standards.
It is usually calculated for the Standards belonging to a specific course.
It was reported on Student Results Notices but has just been discontinued.
