ENGLISH 101
English 101 is a course in which students will be assessed on their production and writing skills and knowledge and understanding of texts.
It consists entirely of Achievement Standards and is
a mix of practical and theoretical work.
15 credits are internally assessed and a further 10 credits
will assess students’ understanding of the curriculum through external exams.
The internal assessments will require students to: explore language and think critically about poetic and transactional written text, produce an extended piece of creative writing, deliver an oral presentation and produce a media or dramatic presentation.
Each internally assessed standard is assessed at its completion.
The external assessments will require students to respond to questions on short texts, visual texts, extended texts and produce a piece of formal writing.
Each externally assessed standard is assessed formatively through tests and school examinations.
English is studied for four hours per week.
