Is this Piece of Work Really Important?
Your son or daughter says;
“Don’t worry, this piece of work doesn't really count”
How do you know if this is really the case?
The simple question to ask your son or daughter is:
“Does this test, exam or assignment count for the award of credits?”
If the answer is yes, the work is very important.
Missing it could mean failing the Standard.
For some Standards there is only one assessment that counts for credits.
You can find out if the work is a credit counting assessment by looking at the College website (Course Information).
All tests, assignments and examinations that count are listed under each course.

Relying on Resits and Resubmissions
Some students believe that some assessments are not all that important
because they can have another go.

Relying on a resit or a resubmission is risky because:
It is only available in some Standards.
It is not available in externally assessed Standards at all.
An analogy
Relying on pulling out a good performance only when it counts and at the last moment will not work for an athlete.
It won’t work for students either.

Homework and study is like training. It doesn't count itself but it is essential to a good performance. Taking a half-hearted and carefree approach in training doesn’t produce good sports performance when it counts either.

Giving everything a good shot is what produces the attitudes and behaviours required to be successful. Sport and school work; it’s the same thing really.

Taking a “just enough” attitude is very risky in sport and it is equally risky at school.
