Our Educational Values

We believe in a broad general education. Such an education includes academic success, sporting involvement, cultural pursuits, meeting challenges, practicing our culture while learning to be top quality, resilient young adults.

We believe that academic success includes formal learning in a wide range of intellectual and practical pursuits. Everyone, whatever their talents, has the right to be able to succeed in the fields that interest them and at a level which stretches their own personal abilities.

The school’s key values are; Respect, Tolerance, Caring, Honesty & Personal Responsibility.

We believe that adolescence is a time of learning to be adults in a society that expects individuals to know what’s right and wrong within themselves so that they not only are responsible for their own actions, but able to determine and live lives that make a positive social contribution.

We believe that this requires a structured framework of clear, consistently maintained rules and values that recognize when young people are good as well as working with them when they get it wrong. We provide support, advice and guidance and allow them practice in the skills of exercising socially acceptable responsibilities.

An important part of our approach is challenge - the "have a go" attitude. We operate to promote challenges and opportunities in many ways and across a spectrum of fields. We try not to restrict these opportunities even when students may have failed or not reached their potential at earlier opportunities.

As significant as academic success is, it is not the full measure of an education. Those other lessons, those qualities that have developed since childhood, those attitudes, those interests, those outlooks, that spirit, that sense of identity, place and community are very important. Achievements gain their flavour and their essential character against these qualities. This is what we hold to be a vital and important part of a full and balanced education.
